How Abbey Weddings started

Established in 1989 by myself Gary Dunn. When I was younger I was interested in classic cars and film making, both very expensive hobbies at the time. I started off as a taxi driver and bought my first Mercedes, which was brown but cheap! I resprayed the Mercedes white and pretty soon I was doing airports, theater runs and of course weddings. I then purchased with a bank loan my first Rolls Royce, a Silver Shadow which had horrible cracked blue paintwork, again purchased cheaply and quickly sprayed white. Pretty soon I was busy every weekend and people were asking “do I know a good wedding photographer?” etc, bearing in mind this was in the days before the internet, so I used to look at all the wedding photographers that I was working with at weddings, and asked the best ones to work for me. Within a short while I had put together a great team of wedding photographers, videographers and DJ’s all top professionals I had the pleasure of working with. Word soon got around how good and reasonably priced we was and we started supplying major wedding shops in Essex. That has been the bases of how I built up Abbey Weddings into being one of the best wedding companies in Essex.

Here we are over 34 years and about 10,000 weddings later, 180+  YouTube videos with over a million views later!. I’ve featured many times on TV including  “Don’t tell the bride” ( the only ever live one, on the same day as the royal wedding, no pressure there then!)  “Say yes to the dress'” and “Dispatches”. I live in Romford with my partner Ruth and our two young children Bradley and Blake.I still get a kick out of every single wedding I attend, It is the excitement, never quite knowing what to expect…
